in order that in the coming ages he might
show the incomparable riches of his grace,
expressed in his kindness to us in Christ Jesus.

Our History
The history of this congregation begins in 1896 when Mr. and Mrs. A.W. Mills moved to this area which had very few residences, no modern conveniences, unpaved streets, one great wheat field, and a “Tall Tree”. Missing the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) they left behind, they began working to establish a Christian Church in Palo Alto.

By the end of the year, there were twenty six charter members – including the first four baptisms by immersion ever witnessed between San Francisco and Santa Clara (done in the San Francisquito Creek, under the Palo Alto Tree near the railroad bridge).
Within the first year, the very active Young Peoples Society of Christian Endeavor was formed. In the spring of 1900, the first building at the corner of Bryant and Hamilton Streets was dedicated. We moved to our current location in 1954.
The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is a community built on the foundation of Jesus Christ with the inspiration and empowerment of Scripture and the Holy Spirit. We strive to bring healing to a broken world through taking seriously the Lord’s calls for peace, justice, unity, and mission. We celebrate Communion weekly and desire to see God's Kingdom come both locally and globally.
